Walldorf - 7/5/17
Summer, Sun, S/4
On Tuesday, June, 20, 2017 the sun was beaming down relentlessly on the SAP Campus in Walldorf even early in the morning. But the heat did not prevent the invited guests from finding their way to the Sycor Customer Day. On the agenda: a live management game familiarizing guests with the functionality of the ERP suite S/4, presentations on the topic of IoT including a live demo, and a visit to the Digital Boardroom – the SAP Group's command center. Hot topics discussed with a cool head.
The day began with a spontaneous tour of the SAP offices. Andreas Umlauft, Partner Manager at SAP, introduced the guests to his day-to-day work in the SAP Group. From the office, to conference rooms, to optimizing commuter traffic – naturally with the company's latest technologies. "I have visited SAP many times in the course of my career […]. But I was never before able to gain such insights," is the conclusion drawn by one guest after the warm-up tour.
On your mark, get set, go: selling water in real time
A brief round of introductions officially kicked off the event. Since the guests came from all over Germany and very different industries, interesting conversations were guaranteed! Then the group split into five foursomes that battled it out for the highest sales in the management simulation game "ERP Water". The players shared the tasks in the group: setting the price of goods, reordering goods, and adapting marketing budgets. Time for teamwork!
All participants were given an iPad for the game. They were able to get into the S/4 real-time simulation through the browser and explore the functions of S/4 compared to the familiar SAP GUI. The user-friendly Fiori interface allowed them to quickly find their way around in the ERP system: They constantly reviewed their market strategy and position, adapting accordingly. Powerful business analyses with BI Analytics – presented as easy to understand curves and diagrams – helped them in this process.
The game's special feature? There really were no losers. All participants gained valuable insights into the possibilities of the new SAP ERP suite and the tools already available to company managers today. "I managed a company with an iPad. Without extensive previous knowledge, but instead with plenty of support from the program. It is impressively simple and was a lot of fun," said one participant.
Internet of Things made simple
After lunch in the SAP canteen, Martina Mohr and Fabian Lehmann, Senior SAP Solution Architects at Sycor, showed how the integration of sensor data works via the SAP cloud platform – and from there to the internal ERP system. They recorded temperature and air pressure data with a sensor before the eyes of the guests and processed them live in the SAP systems. This illustrated the possibilities of IoT, also for midsize enterprises – in the cloud or on-premise.
Digital Boardroom: the SAP command center
After the presentations, the group strolled across the SAP Campus to the administrative building. It is home to the Digital Boardroom. Three large touch screens are set up in this room. SAP company managers can analyze data about their company in real time on these screens and make substantiated decisions. Olga Paul, Presales Consultant at SAP, explained the origins of the Digital Boardroom and demonstrated the analyses that can be performed in seconds. Then the guests had the opportunity to try the functions out for themselves.
