Göttingen IT service provider Sycor has received the "TOP JOB" award. The award was presented by Wolfgang Clement in Essen, Germany, on Friday. In addition to the TOP JOB title, Sycor has also been honored with the special prize TOP JOB: Women in Focus.
Sycor has been awarded a great honor by being recognized as one of the best medium-sized employers in Germany, and has received the TOP JOB award for this achievement. TOP JOB mentor Wolfgang Clement honored Sycor at the Summit of German Midsize Businesses in Essen on June 27. This is the second time Sycor has been recognized as a top employer. The Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen carried out a survey of the company's employees and human resources management prior to issuing the award. The survey focused on employee satisfaction and quality of leadership. For the first time, Sycor was also awarded the special prize "TOP JOB: Women in Focus." This special prize is awarded to companies who stand out at TOP JOB in the categories of equal opportunity, work/home balance and respectful corporate culture.
TOP JOB's comparative company study, which has been carried out every year since 2002, identified Sycor's performance as especially convincing in the categories of "Culture & communication" and "Family orientation & demography." The company of 460 employees attributes its third place ranking to a consistent focus on people. "We believe that work should also be fun," says Martin Renker, Director of Human Resources at Sycor, adding, "We try to help our employees achieve a work/life balance. Flexible working hours and working from home aren't a privilege here, but rather standard practice. This means we can take into account the individual needs of our employees in other areas of their lives as much as possible. Because employees are constantly having to strike a new balance not just between work and their families and partners, but also leisure activities, friends, sports and much more." Among the ways the company meets its employees' need for information are monthly company-wide meetings, an interesting intranet and the "Sycor Insider" employee magazine.
According to Martin Renker, being awarded the TOP JOB seal has motivated the entire company to build on its progress: "We are very excited about our success at TOP JOB, because we all contributed to that success together. We are delighted at our achievement as a team." The company also plans to use the findings of the benchmarking study to further develop its attractiveness as an employer. Renker says, "The results of the TOP JOB analysis are very informative for us, particularly the comparison with other companies of our size. The evaluation helps us become even better in individual areas."
Under the direction of Dr. Heike Bruch, the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen analyzed all of the participating midsize enterprises. The researchers determined the companies' attractiveness as employers from two perspectives: On the one hand, they surveyed the human resources managers regarding methods employed and instruments of personnel management. On the other hand, they also carried out an employee survey, which comprises the core of the TOP JOB analysis. In the survey, the employees answered questions regarding their satisfaction with their work environment, the quality of leadership and their identification with the company and its products.
One hundred and three midsize enterprises competed in the most recent round of TOP JOB, seventy-seven of which were awarded the seal. Nearly three-quarters of them are family companies. The top employers include 10 world market leaders and 19 national market leaders. The companies employ 362 staff on average.
