The Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF (Application Integration Framework) establishes connections
Microsoft Dynamics AX (formerly Axapta) can be converged with integrated business solutions in a variety of ways. Hub and spoke, customer-supplier and the application-with-application scenario are the most commonly used options.
In the hub and spoke scenario, you have a parent company (the hub) and several subsidiaries (the spokes). Since the companies differ in size, the parent company uses a tier-1 ERP system and each of the subsidiaries uses Microsoft Dynamics AX. With Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF, a secure and automated connection can be established between the central ERP system and the Microsoft Dynamics AX installations of the subsidiaries.
In the customer-supplier scenario, the independent and integrated business solutions of a supplier and its customer are linked in order to simplify the ordering process. A direct connection between the business solution of the supplier and the inventory management and procurement system of the supplier can replace telephone, fax or manual ordering methods. Microsoft Dynamics AX AIF can directly support such B2B scenarios, and is expandable with a large range of other business processes.
The application-with-application scenario differs from the two preceding ones. It involves only one site. A company can use its Microsoft Dynamics AX solution for most of the business processes while choosing other systems for more specialized requirements, e.g. invoicing. Once again a seamless connection can be established with the AIF.
